Welcome back to the UnCommon Bodies interview series. Today I’m talking to Jordanne Fuller about Scars.

What attracted you to the UnCommon Bodies project?

I was originally enticed by the promo picture for people to submit. It had a really cool alternative looking woman on it and the idea kind of just jumped into my head. So I started writing… and it all kind of just came out. It was honestly the easiest thing I have ever gotten out of my head.

Tell us about your lead character, what makes them UnCommon?

The protagonist of Scars is a thirty-something woman named Abigail. She has had a life of various kinds of abuse, and the scars to prove it. Abby decides to get those scars covered by tattoos. This begins her foray into the future life of being a tattooed woman.

Any plans to revisit the world of your story?

The reason I called this particular installation “First Session” is because any tattoo laden walking canvas can tell you that it takes well over one sitting to do any large tattoo, let alone your entire body. She only has time to get a few scars covered and future sessions will visit her subsequent scars, tattoos, and flashes to what caused the first of the two.

Are there any other stories in the anthology you particularly enjoyed/are looking forward to reading?

I am looking forward to reading the entire thing as I’ve heard so many amazing things already. The promo for Skin really draws me to it though. I think I’ll say that is the one I’m most interested in at the moment, if only because of the image.

How will you celebrate the launch of the book?

The same way I celebrate all my launches. Party, excitement, and if I’m feeling well enough, I’ll make myself a cake. I’m thinking chocolate orange this time ^-^.

Once readers have read your story, which of your books/stories should they read next?

Nothing I have written is quite like this story so I don’t really know what would compare from my list of works. I do think that the depth in this is similar to the depth I put into Trapped, my story in the Curse of the Heroine Anthology. It’s one you need to read twice to get a lot of the hints to the end that may not have been so obvious the first time.

Is there anything else you’d like to say?

I would like to thank all the other authors that worked on this project. As I’ve gotten to know them all, I am so proud not only to be in an anthology with amazing authors, but amazing people. I have made some friends that I think I may have for a long time to come. I would also really like to thank P.K Tyler and Jessica West for all their hard work, amazing motivation, and just being the greatest pretty much ever. <3

About Jordanne Fuller

Jordanne Fuller is a mishmash of creative talents whirling into one another, solidified into a woman. She has been writing since she can remember but didn’t realize how much she enjoyed it until her poetry explosion at the age of sixteen. At twenty, she wrote her first unfinished novel that will likely never see the light of day. Now that she is thirty(ish), Jordanne has finished Night, a novel that she hopes to publish in the near future. Although Dusk (the stand alone prequel to Night) is her first work to enter the hands of a publishing company, Troy was her first work to be released as a contribution to the Love Sucks Anthology, published by CHBB. Both anthologies achieved top ten international bestseller status the day they launched. She also has works within Twisted Tales: A Paranormal Anthology and Curse of Heroines Anthology; The Flight of Phoenix and Trapped respectively. When not writing, Jordanne likes to do various arts and crafts, but most of all enjoys spending time with her son, fiancé and four cats. She has lived in Toronto for much of her adult life, but spent her childhood among many of the surrounding towns.
