Happy Birthday, Serial Killer Z

Today marks the 7th anniversary of the first book in my serial killer vs zombies series, Serial Killer Z.

It’s also Clive Barker’s birthday. I hadn’t noticed that before but Barker is one of my favourite authors so it’s pretty cool.

Serial Killer Z or SKZ1 as it’s known in all my spreadsheets was the first horror novel I published. Prior to that I’d wandered haphazardly into indie publishing with some science fiction. But thanks to people like Clive Barker, Poppy Z. Brite, and Caitlin R. Kiernan, my true love has always been horror. Even when I write something that isn’t horror, I usually end up in a dark place.

The basic premise of the Serial Killer Z series is Dexter meets The Walking Dead, and of the dozens of ideas I have for horror novels, it was the one that dug its claws into me the deepest. I actually began writing the book on January 5th, 2014 making it over three years between starting that first draft and publication.

Part of that was because I wrote the first three books in the series before publishing the first one. The other reason was a tumultuous editing process that is too complicated to go into here.

But the book emerged intact, and recently hit 100 ratings on Amazon, the highest of any of my books. There are some great comments in the book’s reviews, and I’m incredibly grateful that it’s found its audience.

To celebrate its birthday, Serial Killer Z is currently 99c/99p (or equivalent) on Amazon. You can grab your copy right here.
